fourth sector (7/11/07) - corporations whose mission is to be simultaneously profitable and beneficial to society; also called for-benefit corporations, hybrid corporations, and social enterprises. The first three sectors are (1) government, (2) private sector for-profit businesses, and (3) nonprofit organizations, also known as third sector organizations or nongovernmental (NGO) organizations.
