CivicMind™ Awards - 2006

  • Washington Service Corps (65th CivicMind Award, July 2006) - a publicly-funded statewide service program which engages young adults in addressing community needs across Washington State in the areas of education, environment, homeland security, emergency preparedness, and other human needs.


  • Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (64th Award, June 2006) - a national nonprofit Latino civil rights organization that promotes and protects the rights of Latinos through litigation, advocacy, community education and outreach, leadership development, and higher education scholarships.


  • Natural Resources Defense Council (63rd Award, April 2006) - a nonprofit organization of scientists, lawyers and environmental specialists dedicated to protecting public health, the environment, and unspoiled wildlands in the Americas threatened by development.


  • American Library Association (62nd CivicMind Award, March 2006) - represents 16,000 libraries nationwide which insure free and equal access to information for all, protect intellectual freedom under the First Amendment, and promote the highest quality library services.


  • V-Day: Until the Violence Stops (61st Award, February 2006) is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls by promoting awareness and raising money for local anti-violence organizations, primarily through worldwide performances of The Vagina Monologues every year in February and March.


  • ACLU - American Civil Liberties Union (60th Award, January 2006) - a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization founded in 1920 to "defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States."
